How Much Does Wasp Nest Treatment Cost in Essex?
Wasp nest treatment in Essex is a fixed price, whatever the size of your property. Here is what the price covers and what to check before you book.
Wasps are a fact of life in an Essex summer, but a nest in your loft, shed or wall is a different matter. When you find one, the first question is nearly always about money. The honest answer is that it should be a simple, fixed figure agreed before anyone comes out.
What a wasp nest treatment costs
With Essex Pest Solutions, the first nest is £140. If there is a second nest, or a third, at the same visit, each extra nest treated costs £50. The price is the same for a flat, a terraced house or a large detached home, and no VAT is added on top. The figure you are quoted on the phone is the figure you pay.
Same-day service is available, subject to availability, which is useful if the nest is by a door, a child's play area or a washing line and you want it dealt with quickly.
What the price covers
The fee is for a professional treatment of the nest using products and equipment that are not sold to the public. A technician will find the nest entrance, treat it safely, and explain what to expect over the following day or two. It is normal to see a few wasps still flying in and out for a short while, as returning workers meet the treated nest.
- A visit from a fully insured technician
- Treatment of the nest at the agreed fixed price
- Clear advice on what to do afterwards
- Extra nests at the same visit at the lower rate
Why a flat price makes sense
Some firms charge by the height of the nest, the number of wasps or the size of your house, and the figure drifts upwards once they arrive. A fixed price removes that worry. You can compare like with like, and you know before you book whether the job fits your budget.
Nests do vary, of course. A small nest in a hedge is a quicker job than a large one deep in a cavity wall. The point of a fixed price is that the company takes on that variation, not you.
What can make a job more involved
The price does not change with the size of the property, but a few things are worth mentioning when you call so the technician arrives prepared:
- Where the nest is, such as the loft, a wall void, a garden shed or a tree
- Whether you can see the entrance and whether it is easy to reach
- Whether anyone in the household has a known allergy to stings
- If you have pets or children who use the area
If anyone has had a serious reaction to a sting before, tell the technician and keep away from the nest. Anyone who feels unwell after being stung should speak to a pharmacist or GP.
Do not try to knock the nest down yourself
It is tempting to spray a nest from a ladder or block the hole. Both are a bad idea. Wasps defend the nest fiercely, and blocking the entrance can send them through the ceiling or wall into your living space instead. Leave it alone, keep children and pets away, and book a treatment.
How to save money on two problems
If you have another pest problem at the same time, such as ants or cockroaches, mention it when you book. The code TWOPESTS gives £50 off a second pest treatment on the same visit, so it makes sense to deal with both at once rather than paying for two separate call-outs.
