How Much Does Carpet Moth Control Cost in Essex?
Carpet and clothes moth treatment in Essex starts from £295 for one room, with the price rising by room. This article explains what that covers and how to avoid paying twice.
Moth damage is easy to miss at first. A small bald patch under a sofa, a hole in a wool jumper, a few papery casings along a skirting board. By the time most people call a pest controller, the larvae have been feeding for a while. The next question is nearly always about cost, so here is how we price it.
The price, room by room
Carpet and clothes moth treatment uses the same room-based pricing as our flea and bed bug work. One room costs £295, two rooms £395, three rooms £495, four rooms £595, and every extra room is a further £100. The figure is fixed, agreed before we start, and has no VAT added.
- 1 room: £295
- 2 rooms: £395
- 3 rooms: £495
- Each extra room: £100 more
If the activity is spread through a large property, ring us and we will talk it through and confirm a price.
How to work out the number of rooms
The adult moths you see flying are not the ones doing the damage. It is the larvae, which feed on wool, fur, feathers, silk and other natural fibres, as well as on pet hair and dust built up in dark corners. So the rooms to count are the ones where larvae are likely to be feeding:
- Rooms with wool or part-wool carpets and rugs
- Bedrooms with wardrobes full of knitwear and coats
- Spare rooms where stored clothing or blankets sit undisturbed
- Spaces under furniture where fluff and hair gather
A tidy house can still have moths, since they favour places that are dark and rarely moved. When we inspect, we look at the carpet edges, under heavy furniture and inside storage, and then agree the rooms that need treating.
What the treatment includes
The price covers the professional treatment of the agreed rooms by a fully insured technician, working discreetly and without fuss. Whole-property treatments come with a 3-month guarantee. If you would like to know more about the service itself, see our carpet moth control page.
Treatment deals with the moths and larvae present, but it does not repair existing damage. Holes in carpets and clothing stay where they are, so it is worth checking items you value and having them professionally cleaned or repaired once the problem has been dealt with.
Getting ready before we arrive
Preparation makes the treatment more effective and helps you avoid a return of the problem.
- Empty wardrobes and drawers in affected rooms, or at least make sure they can be opened fully.
- Vacuum carpets, along skirting boards and under furniture, then dispose of the contents outside the house.
- Wash or dry clean clothing you suspect is affected, following the care label.
- Move furniture away from walls where you reasonably can, so the edges are reachable.
Keeping moths from coming back
Once the treatment is done, a few habits make a real difference. Vacuum regularly, particularly in the corners and beneath furniture. Store woollens clean, because soiled clothing attracts larvae, and keep them in sealed containers. Check second-hand rugs, furniture and clothing before bringing them into the house, as that is a common way for moths to arrive.
I would also suggest avoiding mothball-style products on your own, which can smell strongly and are not a substitute for proper treatment. Ask us if you want advice on prevention.
